An Irish Wedding

Last weekend, Paul and I travelled across to Belfast to attend the wedding of Craig and Julia.  I was going to write a long descriptive post but I thought it would be better to let the photos speak for themselves.  Enjoy!

How To Write Your Wedding Guest List

For some brides to be writing their guest list can be one of the most stressful parts of planning their wedding.  Trying to keep everyone happy, figuring out who you “should” invite and staying within the numbers you can afford can be exceptionally mind-boggling.  In an attempt to remedy this, I have compiled a series of steps for you to follow along with some food for thought at the end.  It has worked so far for me so I hope it will for you too!

1.      Work out how many guests you can afford

It is critical that this is your first step.  You need to know how many guests you can comfortably pay for, and stick to this number.  Another consideration is the maximum number of guests your venue can hold.

2.      Write a 1st draft with your partner

Either separately or together, you should sit down with your husband to be and write out a rough list of all those you want to have at your wedding. Just do a quick brainstorm and get the names down on paper.  Then, discuss each guest and make sure you’re both happy with them being on the list.  Any disagreements or guests you’re not sure about should be placed on the ‘maybe’ list and discussed later.

3.      Consult Your Parents

Whether or not your parents are paying for all or part of your wedding it is still polite to discuss your guest list with them.  They might have some people up their sleeve who have slipped your mind.  Although, it is important to respect your parents’ decisions, bare in mind that this is your wedding and not theirs.  If they are being forceful/overpowering with your guest list just kindly remind them that your numbers are limited and you want to invite those most important to you.

What To Wear To A Wedding

Having just been to a wedding this weekend (more on that later in the week) and had to find something to wear, I thought it would be fitting to write a blog post on what to wear to a wedding.  I’ve basically narrowed it down to a few key tips and if you follow them you won’t go far wrong.

1.    It has to be classy

I mean, let’s face it, a wedding is pretty much the classiest event most of us get to go to.  (I don’t know about you but I’m still patiently awaiting my red carpet invitation)  So, make the most of it!  Get yourself kitted up in your classiest dress and work it!

2.    This doesn’t mean it has to be expensive…

You can be craftily classy with the right fabrics and cuts, without having to spend a small fortune.  All you need is a keen eye.  The dress I’m wearing was snatched from the sale rail at Dorothy Perkins for a whopping £12! But sshhhh…

Sweatin' For The Weddin' - Blogilates

Welcome to this month’s edition of Sweatin’ For The Weddin’.  Like most brides to be I am keen to get in shape for my wedding day.  I created this monthly series to share how I’m currently Sweatin’ and hopefully provide some inspiration for those of you who aren’t sure what to do.

You’re probably thinking what’s Blogilates?  Pilates just for bloggers?  Pilates and blogging at the same time?

Blogilates is many things.  Essentially, it is a series of online Pilates lessons taught by Cassey Ho, the bounciest, bubbliest Pilates instructor you’ll ever meet.  Cassey has created literally hundreds of fun workout videos and posted them on her blog and YouTube channel…for free!  If you’re not sure which videos to do Cassey has got you covered.  By signing up to her free newsletter you receive the top secret password to allow you to download each month’s printable calendar.  The calendar works by allocating each day of the week to different body parts such as abs, legs or butt.  There will be a series of videos to do that day to work that particular area.  You just work through them, tick them off, sign your name and BOOM!  Workout complete.

Now, I have to be honest with you.  These workouts can be TOUGH.  If you’re finding them too hard there is a beginner’s calendar to break you in more slowly.  But bear in mind that you should feel challenged.  Workouts are supposed to push you, otherwise you won’t improve.  As Cassey says, ‘Train Insane or Remain the Same.’

Loch Lomond Wedding Exhibition, Saturday 5th April 2014

My maid of honour, Stephanie, and I ventured out in to the wind and rain on Saturday to attend the Loch Lomond Wedding Exhibition.  A large marquee was set up in the overflow car park at Loch Lomond Shores packed full of suppliers.  After having a brief chat with one of the wedding car suppliers we dashed inside to the warm and dry.  We were immediately greeted with a hive of activity.  There were over 100 stalls showing off the weird and wonderful services of each supplier standing proudly in front.  This was by far the biggest wedding show I have attended so far.  We made our way round in as logical an order as we could so as not to miss anything.

With so many suppliers present there was definitely room for the more extravagant and the less traditional.  These included firework displays, alcoholic slush machines and a magician who costs £200 to keep your guests occupied while you get your photos taken!  Walking around and taking all this in made me reflect on just how easy it is for a wedding budget to go way off the chart.  Perhaps I’m being a little cynical but I know for my wedding I’ll be sticking to the more “standard” suppliers and services.  For me, a wedding is an expensive day anyway.  I don’t really want to add more fuel to an already blazing fire.  That’s my opinion.  What’s yours?  Do you feel the extras enhance your wedding day?  Or do you think they burn a hole in your budget?  I’d love to hear both sides of the story.

Now, back to the wedding show and the wonderful suppliers who caught my attention.
